World Youth Day 2008
World Youth Day, the largest youth event in the world, will be hosted in Sydney from 15-20 July 2008.
It is expected to attract up to half a million pilgrims from across the globe.
Pope Benedict XVI will make his first visit to Australia to celebrate the Final Mass on 20 July 2008.
Started by Pope John Paul II, World Youth Day has been held every year since 1986 when the first event was held in Rome. Sydney will host the 10th international World Youth Day.
WYD offers a unique opportunity for young people from around the world to celebrate and learn more about the Catholic faith.
